Layoff history
Uber's Cornershop unit laid off about 200 employees in Chile in April 2024, part of a wider cut of roughly 500 workers across Latin America. The affected roles were concentrated in back-office customer support for Cornershop's Supermarkets and Retail line of business. Uber described the reductions as an operational optimization following the integration of Cornershop into Uber's broader regional structure. A company statement acknowledged the "difficult decision to reduce the team's size" and said affected workers would receive personalized compensation and benefits packages along with transition assistance. Cornershop, the Santiago-founded grocery delivery app, was acquired by Uber in 2021 and had been gradually folded into Uber Eats operations across the region.
