Layoff history
Ad-tech company Criteo cut about 140 employees, roughly 4% of its global staff, in April 2024 as it braced for the financial fallout from Google's planned phaseout of third-party cookies in Chrome. CFO Sarah Glickman had warned during the company's earnings call that the cookie deprecation could cost Criteo as much as $40 million. The Paris-based company built its core retargeting business on third-party cookies, and Google's shift to its Privacy Sandbox system threatened to strip out much of the targeting capability advertisers relied on. Criteo had also been attempting a pivot toward retail media with mixed results. The company described the cuts as a global reduction but did not specify which departments or regions were most affected.
