Epic Games laid off more than 1,000 employees on March 24, 2026, about 20% of its workforce, leaving the Fortnite maker with roughly 4,000 staff. The company said spending had outpaced revenue as Fortnite engagement slowed and the games industry faced weaker consumer spending, slower growth and tougher cost economics, compounded by its early-stage return to mobile after legal fights with Apple and Google. Management stressed the cuts were "not related to artificial intelligence." CEO Tim Sweeney said market conditions were "the most extreme we've seen since those early days, with massive upheaval in the industry." Severance includes at least four months of base pay (more with tenure), six months of Epic-paid U.S. healthcare, accelerated option vesting through January 2027 and extended exercise windows. At least 211 jobs were cut at the company's Cary, North Carolina headquarters.
