Denver-based education technology startup Guild cut approximately 300 employees in May 2024, reducing its headcount by 25% from roughly 1,200. CEO Bijal Shah announced the decision in a letter on Guild's website, saying the changes would allow the company to "operate more efficiently, innovate faster, and continue to deliver strong outcomes for our stakeholders." The round followed a cut of 172 workers in May 2023, when Guild shed about 12% of its workforce. That earlier reduction came with a generous severance package that included 12 weeks of base pay plus one week per year of service, along with extended COBRA coverage, though it is unclear whether comparable terms applied to the 2024 round. Guild was valued at $4.4 billion in 2022.
