Instacart has 11 publicly reported layoff rounds on record between March 13, 2019 and February 13, 2024. A total of about 2,299 employees were affected across these rounds.
Layoff history
Instacart eliminated 250 positions on February 13, 2024, about 7% of its roughly 3,500-person workforce, alongside the release of its fourth-quarter earnings. CEO Fidji Simo said the goal was to "reshape the company and flatten the organization," with management roles bearing the heaviest cuts. Certain teams focused on smaller initiatives were wound down to concentrate resources on larger priorities, including retail-powered media and off-platform advertising. Three senior executives also departed around the same time: the chief operating officer, chief technology officer, and chief architect. The company projected total layoff costs of $19 million to $24 million, covering severance and benefits, with most separations effective by March 31. Q4 revenue came in at $803 million, up about 6% year-over-year.
