Lenovo has 3 publicly reported layoff rounds on record between December 8, 2022 and July 16, 2025. A total of about 100 employees were affected across these rounds.
Layoff history
Lenovo confirmed in mid-July 2025 that it was trimming about 3% of its U.S. workforce, a reduction of roughly 100 to 150 jobs, with the heaviest impact at its North American headquarters on the Morrisville campus near Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. The company described the move as part of a broader cost review to align with external market dynamics, but the cuts came directly after U.S. tariffs created an estimated $50 to $60 million quarterly loss for the Chinese PC maker. CEO Yuanqing Yang told investors the company was not worried about the tariffs themselves but about the pace and unpredictability of trade policy changes. Lenovo employs roughly 5,000 people in the United States, with about 2,000 at the Morrisville site. No severance details were made public.
Reason: Cost reduction in response to tariff-driven losses and trade policy uncertainty
