Placer.ai has 1 publicly reported layoff round on record (most recent January 29, 2025). A total of about 150 employees were affected across these rounds.
Layoff history
Placer.ai cut 150 employees, 18% of its roughly 850-person workforce, in January 2025, citing a push toward profitability and a narrowed strategic focus. The location analytics company said it was "reducing costs in areas that are not immediately critical to our mission" to build a leaner organization. Most of the affected roles were U.S.-based. The timing was notable: Placer had raised $75 million at a $1.5 billion valuation just five months earlier, in August 2024, and had crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue in early 2024 with a customer base that had grown to over 4,300 clients. No severance details were disclosed publicly.
Reason: Cost reduction and strategic refocus toward profitability
