Simpl cut 100 employees (15% of staff)
100 laid off 15% of workforce Location Bengaluru

Bengaluru-based BNPL startup Simpl laid off more than 100 employees in May 2024, roughly 15% of its workforce of about 650. The cuts spanned multiple departments but hit engineering and product roles particularly hard, given their higher compensation. CEO Nitya Sharma told staff at a company-wide town hall that Simpl would do its best to assist with outplacement. A company spokesperson said the measures were intended to "improve operational efficiencies, reduce fixed and overhead costs" and maintain a razor-sharp focus on profitability. It was the second consecutive year of significant cuts: Simpl had also shed more than 150 positions in April 2023. Some employees learned of the decision when their Slack access was cut before the town hall began.
