Stockholm-based e-scooter operator Voi cut 120 employees, 12% of its workforce, in February 2024 as the company pushed toward full profitability. Of those affected, roughly 70 were full-time employees and about 50 held part-time or consultant roles. Mechanics and field workers were largely spared. CEO and co-founder Fredrik Hjelm acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, saying it was "incredibly difficult to bid farewell to some of our highly-valued colleagues who have made significant contributions to Voi." The cuts came against a difficult backdrop for the micromobility sector: rival Tier had already slashed 20% of its staff in late 2023 before merging with Dott in January 2024, with the combined entity valued at roughly 150 million euros, a steep drop from Tier's 2021 valuation of 2 billion euros. Voi said it had reduced central overhead costs by nearly 50% since mid-2022 while growing gross profit 22% and expanding gross margin 49% over the prior year. No severance details were disclosed.
