Bending Spoons announced on September 8, 2024 that it would cut 75% of WeTransfer's workforce, around 260 of the roughly 350 employees at the file-sharing company it acquired two months earlier. CEO Luca Ferrari said the goal was a "smaller, more sharply focused WeTransfer organization" that would be better positioned for long-term success. He acknowledged the decisions were "painful" but said the company was prepared to make them "when we believe it's the right thing to do to help the business thrive." The move followed Bending Spoons' pattern after prior acquisitions: the Italian app maker had previously cut 129 Evernote employees and laid off the entire Filmic workforce after buying those companies in 2023.
