Layoff history
Zipcar said on February 2, 2026 that it would cut 126 jobs and close its corporate headquarters in Boston's Seaport district, with the reductions taking effect by April 1, 2026. The cuts hit 65 Boston-based employees and 61 remote workers nationwide. Parent company Avis Budget Group said it was consolidating Zipcar's corporate functions into its global headquarters in New Jersey to improve operational efficiency. Regional field and fleet operations in Boston, along with day-to-day member service, will continue. "We are committed to managing this transition responsibly and supporting our employees throughout the process," Avis Budget Group said. The decision follows Zipcar's exit from its UK operations and came roughly six months after the car-sharing service marked its 25th anniversary.
